EFTSL (Equivalent Full time Student Load)
EFTSL (formerly known as EFTSU) is a measurement for student load or student workload. The EFTSL value assigned to a unit taken in a course represents the workload in the unit as a proportion of the standard annual workload normally undertaken by a full-time student in that course. These calculations are normally based on the credit point values for coursework degrees. Thus a 6 point unit taken in a 48-point standard year would be assigned 6/48 = 0.12500 EFTSL whereas the same unit taken in a year of another degree with 50 points would be assigned 6/50 = 0.12000 EFTSL.

UWA Band/Student Contribution Bands
The minimum student contribution bands are set by the Australian Government. All units are classified to bands according to their subject matter (discipline group), except for students who commenced their course before 1997. The following table shows the cost of one EFTSL at UWA in 2008.

Australian Fee Paying Undergraduate Students
In 2008 The University of Western Australia will offer additional undergraduate places in selected courses on a fee paying basis to Australian and New Zealand students and holders of a permanent visa. Tuition fees will be charged on a per unit basis. The cost of each unit will depend on its EFTSL value and the cost cluster in which the unit is classified. Thus the cost of a unit is the EFTSL multiplied by the cluster amount.
